I set out on this project trying to reveal the structure of
elements and principles used in Concept Art as a "language" to
transmit the artists' desired ideas to their audience. Throughout my work, I
explored several examples, attempting to "translate" them and apply
them practically, in order to better explain how they are used and why they
function in the way that they do. I believe this is important, as every genre
of the visual arts has its own set of "rules", making up its own
"language". Some of these are shared. Some are not. But a good visual
artist should be aware at least of principles employed by his own genre, and
should strive to discover and understand them.
The project which I here began is vast, and perhaps it can
never truly be complete, just as a dictionary never is, as new definitions are constantly
added. Yet it is my hope that it might serve as a first step - not just for
myself, in the career I wish to pursue, but also to other young artists
interested in Concept Art, or perhaps even in "visual-languages" in
general.
I hope that what you seen and read thus far shall prove
enough to convince you of the worth of this idea - and before I move on to the
reference list, I would only like to thank you for bearing with me so
patiently.
