Shade Archer
For this, the first character of the Red Team, I chose the
role of an archer. I wanted to keep at least somewhat close to the human form
for the beginning, since I felt this group was perhaps the one furthest away
from it, and thus needed at least one member that would bring it a bit closer
to what my audience could relate to. Beside this, combat-archery is a skill
which would require agility, so this would fit into the context well.
In order to suggest the character's allegiance to the Speed
primary attribute, I chose to make use of the same principle of visual-language
by which I suggested Strength in the case of Green Team's Dwarven Primalist:
artistic deformation.
The same technique is thus applied, warping the body's
dimensions relative to external elements of reference, while keeping the
proportions of the component body-parts relative to each-other constant. But
whereas in the previous example we had achieved the suggestion of strength by
compressing the character's height to indicate an increase in density, in this
case the required change was the exact opposite: increasing the individual's
height while keeping the width and depth constant resulted in a figure with
long limbs which appear well-suited for running, as well as a general sense of
it being light-weight, as though its "tissues" had a low density,
favoring quick movement and reflexes.
