In video-games, the very idea of identifying units or factions via colours is most often seen in iterations belonging to the strategy genre (although no genre should by any means be discounted), with numerous examples readily available such as Westwood Studios' trendsetting Dune II (1992)[8], or Blizzard Entertainment's popular Starcraft 2 (2010)[9].

The other notion in question - that of defining, "primary attributes" of characters is a creation of the role-playing genre, going as far back as the Dungeons and Dragons tabletop games by Gary Gygax[10], and employed in such video-games as the Might and Magic series (originally New World Computing, currently Ubisoft Entertainment)[11], The Elder Scrolls series (Bethesda Softworks)[12], and the numerous adaptations to the Dungeons and Dragons series itself (currently by Wizards of the Coast)[13].
